Tell us about what you do at Kidsline...
We're all volunteers who offer our time to talk to kids about whatever is troubling them. I love being
a Kidsline counsellor, mostly because of the huge satisfaction I gain knowing that I helped someone
work through their problem or concern.
How challenging is it?
Sometimes calls can be challenging, but nobody should ever feel nervous or hesitant about phoning
us. All of the Buddies are carefully trained and have loads of experience to handle every issue or
situation we come across.
What is so special about Kidsline in New Zealand?
We are very lucky to have Kidsline because it is one of the only "near peer" services available here.
That means that kids get to talk to other kids just a few years older than they are, and sometimes
this can be easier than speaking with a parent or adult.
What do you enjoy most about being a Buddy?
I've enjoyed making new friends and just helping out the callers wherever I can. Through all of this,
Kidsline has become a large part of my life and I know that the skills and experiences I have had here
will stay with me for the rest of my life.
