How to Make Homemade Scar Wax

Creating realistic-looking cuts and zombie skin OR transforming your face into a pimply teenager is simple with Upstart’s homemade scar wax … you can even use it to give yourself a witch’s nose!

What you need…

Whether you’re planning for your next Halloween or costume party, or just want to prank your friends, scar wax is wonderfully simple to make.

All you’ll need are these three easy to find ingredients…

  • 1 tsp Petroleum Jelly
    (we used Vaseline)

  • 4 tsp Flour

  • Foundation that matches your skin tone.
(use leftovers from a family member, or look for a whatever cheap kind you can find)

What to do…

  1. Add 1 teaspoon of petroleum jelly and 4 teaspoons of flour to a small bowl.

  2. Mix the petroleum jelly and flour until combined. There shouldn’t be any lumps.
Note: If the petroleum jelly is too firm to mix, leave it somewhere warm until it softens. Petroleum jelly reacts to heat.

  3. Add foundation to the mixture and combine.
Keep adding foundation until the mixture matches your skin tone.

  4. Test the mixture between your fingers to check its consistency.
You should be able to roll the mixture into a firm ball.
Note: If the mixture is too sticky or soft, add a little more flour.
If the weather is warm, try putting the mixture in the fridge for approximately 20 mins, this will help to harden it.

  5. To use, roll the scar wax into the shape desired, then gently blend it into your skin. Store any leftovers in a sealed container.

Fun ideas for your scar wax…

  • Create wounds
To create fake wounds, use a toothpick to add cuts in the scar wax. Then use red eye shadow or fake blood to make the cuts look like they are infected or bleeding.

  • Create zombie skin
The longer you leave the scar wax on your body, the more it will soften (as it is heated by your body heat) to look like it is an oozing wound.
Add a little green or brown eye shadow to your scar wax to give the impression of zombie skin.

  • Have a fake break out
Add little round circles of red or yellow eye shadow to your face and mould small balls of scar wax in the middle of these, and you’ll look like your face is covered in pus-filled pimples!

  • Grow a new nose
You can also use scar wax to give yourself a different shaped nose… or an extra one!
