Rueben and I walking across Tower Bridge in London

Hi, I'm Josie from Dunedin

I'm 11 years old and I live in Dunedin with my Mum, Dad, brother Reuben (he's 7), and my cat Pango. (Pango is 10 cat years and is very antisocial and quite insane!).

This is my first year at high school. I am going to St Hilda's Collegiate. I previously attended Maori Hill Primary School.
I have lots of interests. I play netball and tennis. My hobbies are modern dancing, acting, piano, reading and cycling. On the weekends, I like to hang out with friends and family and I love sleeping in! When I leave school, I would like to be an actress or an author.

Family travels

My family has travelled a bit due to my dad's work. We lived in Zurich, Switzerland, for six months when I was three and for another six months when I was aged six.

Last year we lived in jolly old England for four months! It was an exciting time. My dad was already over there in Cambridge (a city in England) so we joined him as soon as the school term ended. First we flew to Christchurch, then to Singapore, and then onto Heathrow Airport in London. We got to watch movies on the plane. We arrived in England at the end of their summer holidays and immediately started to explore Cambridge.

Trying to find my way n the tube (underground) map of London

We visited Reuben's and my new school – St Philip's. We went shopping and saw so many shops I'd never heard of. I was surprised how many double decker buses there were.

Our new school

School soon started. At St Philip's you had to wear a uniform – eewww! The classrooms were tiny and for each subject, you had to change seats. The playground was just a courtyard and at lunchtime they served up awful school meals (tasted disgusting!). School in Cambridge was so different. The teachers even had to lock the gates because it was so boring that some kids liked to run away. It was hard adjusting to life in Cambridge. As we got closer to winter, the days got colder and shorter. After a while, I started to make new friends at St Philips and I started to enjoy myself. The school had a talent show just before Christmas and I was a judge. We also had two productions – one for the students and one for the teachers.

The Queen and I in London about to have a cup of tea. I saw this wax model of Queen Elizabeth II at Madame Tussand's Wax Museum

So much to see

In the weekends, our family would usually go to London. We went to tons of places. My favourite was the wax museum. (I have actually seen Michael Jackson after he died!). In Covent Garden a performer actually jumped over top of my brother! And there was this Italian restaurant that made the BEST Margarita pizza!

We also went on a canal boat. I loved going through the locks (the gates that separate the different water levels) and sitting on the roof of the canal boat. My family also went punting with my granddad. Punting is when you use a pole to push a boat through the water. The boat is called a 'punt' and it is a small, shallow boat with square ends, usually used for short trips on rivers, lakes and canals. It snowed on my last day of school! I ended up loving school in England. In fact I loved England altogether! I would love to go back!
