WARNING: You must do this activity with adult permission and supervision. Essential oils need to be used sparingly and with caution. They may smell nice, but essential oils should not be eaten or applied directly to your skin and they must be diluted in water.

What you need:

  • A pine cone

  • Pure essential oils of your choice

  • Gloves (can be dish-washing gloves)

  • Spray bottle

What to do:

  • Go outside and collect fallen pine cones

  • Wash your pine cones by soaking them in soapy water.
When they are wet they may close up, but don’t worry they open again when they are dry.

  • Leave your pine cones in the sun to dry for a day or two.

  • Put on your gloves and fill a spray bottle with one half a cup of water and eight drops of essential oils.
This mix also makes an amazing air freshener!

  • Arrange your pine cones together in whatever decorative way you like around the house or pop one in the car.
As the scent fades over time you can add a little more of the essential oils to the pine cones.

Essential Tips

  • You can buy essential oils from health and wellness stores, but make sure the oils you buy are natural essential oils.

  • Essential oils can be about $20 each, so save the oil to make other products such as reed diffusers, all-natural wax melts and bath fragrances.

What are Essential oils?

Essential oils are a potent, highly concentrated extract taken from a plant. The extract may be from the stem, bark, flowers, leaves, seeds or roots of a plant.

Some people may use these oils for their fragrance or for the properties that the plant has.

Which scent makes you smile?

Everyone has their own favorite scents. I chose sweet orange, as it makes me feel replenished and happy.
