Hi guys!
In this Upstart edition, I’m going to try to teach our beginner skateboarders how to Ollie.
As most of you will know, the Ollie can be used in many other tricks, like the Kick Flip, which we’ll talk about in the June/July edition of Upstart. It’s important to get the basics right before you move on to the harder stuff.
So here goes

1. First thing you need to know is the correct way to stand on a skate board. If you like to stand left foot forward, that’s what we call natural-footed (I skate natural-footed). If you stand right foot forward you skate goofy-footed.

2. As you start rolling along put your front foot behind your front set of bolts and start bending your knees.

3. As you start to jump up, slide your back foot onto the tail and push down until it hits the ground.

4. When you hear the tail of your board hit the ground jump up as high as you can and slide your front foot up the board on to the nose to balance your board out in the air.

5. Landing is the hard part. To make your Ollie look good you have to land it with both feet over the bolts. As you land bend your knees to absorb the shock and ride away with style.
